That’s my hometown!

Hey look, it’s Russell Crowe! In Wheaton!

Apparently he’s filming the new Superman movie near there. So if you live in the area, keep an eye out. It might have to be a pretty keen eye, at that. I have to say, he looks decidedly UN-movie-star-ish here. If I passed him on the sidewalk, I’d probably think he was just finishing up his shift at Carlson’s Hardware.

Maybe someone’s been hitting up The Popcorn Shop and Egglectic a little too much while in town…

Pumpkin Spice Latte season is NOW

At least in Chicago!

Apparently Chicago won some sort of weird contest, and as our prize, all the Starbucks (Starbuckses?) in the area have started selling Pumpkin Spice Lattes – a whole week earlier than the rest of the country!

This whole thing seems sort of dumb to me – who among us can’t wait a measly week to get our PSL fix? BUT, everyone who knows me is well aware that I stand powerless against the lure of this magically delicious drink (see item #1 in this list). So even though I’m NOT ready for the end of summer, and it’s going to be humid and over 90 degrees the next couple of days, I may just have to pop on over to the ‘bucks this week for an early taste of fall.

Then I’m going to go the beach, drink a frozen margarita and play volleyball or something because, dammit, it’s still SUMMER!

Sweet!

First, we got this good news about wine last week, and now my need to consume chocolate on a regular basis is also being justified!

“… researchers found that those who eat the most chocolate on a regular basis reduce their relative risk for heart disease by one-third.” – ABC 7 News, Chicago

It sure had been a good week for those of us with vices. Now I just need to find a study that proves that shoe shopping reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease.

You need to know about this

Attention everyone over the age of 21 (and college kids (who am I kidding) and those of you in high school whose parents are the kind that say “It’s ok if you have a drink as long as it’s with us under our roof…”):

There is now cake-flavored vodka. Yes – cake vodka exists.

And I intend to try it using this recipe from Apartment #34.

No, not NOW. Sheesh, it’s 11:30 in the morning! I’ll have to wait another half hour or so…

“Ah babies!”

“They’re more than just adorable little creatures on whom you can blame your farts.”

Wise words from Tina Fey.

I’m almost done reading Bossypants, and I’m kind of sad because I wish there was more. I guess the only good thing about finishing the book is that I can stop feeling jealous of how talented Tina Fey is. Until I start watching the new season of 30 Rock…

Two obsessions

Obsession #1: San Pellegrino Limonata

This stuff is a serious party in your mouth. No wait, serious parties aren’t fun! This stuff is a crazy, wacky, raucous party in your mouth. Two words: liquid Lemonheads.

Obsession #2: Love&Toast Rose Sorbet Lip Butter

Best chapstick ever. Smooth, a little shiny, smells like roses, tastes like sorbet.

Lately I’ve been equally obsessed with both of these things. So obsessed that I drive by their houses at night to see if they’re home and dial their numbers only to hang up when I hear their voices.

Next phase: creepy notes made out of letters cut from newspapers and magazines.

Happy birthday, Mom!

Today my mom is EVEN OLDER than she was yesterday. Yikes.

(Just kidding, Mom – you’re not that old! Also, I realize the above statement is true for everyone, everyday. Whatever.)

Here’s the ecard I sent her:

Yes, she’s still young enough…but barely. (Sorry Mom, kidding! Again! Sort of. No really, I am!)

Note: For the past 5 years or so, I’ve used someecards.com exclusively for all of my ecard needs. They are hilarious.

Diner en Blanc

How cool is this??

This past Saturday night, hundreds of people dressed in white gathered at Daley Plaza underneath the Picasso sculpture and had an elegant evening of dinner and dancing. It was part of a series of “flash” picnics called Diner en Blanc that happen all over the world. New York just had theirs several days ago, and I think it actually all started in Paris. (Could something this chic conceivably start anywhere else?)

The cool thing is that the participants signed up weeks in advance (I thought about trying to get tickets, and now I wish I had!) but the location of the dinner isn’t revealed to them until hours before it actually starts! All they’re told ahead of time is to bring food, table settings and dress all in white.

The only thing that makes me glad I wasn’t there is the fact that when I eat while wearing white, I inevitably end up looking like a Jackson Pollock painting of food stains. So not chic.

Hot dog!

The high points of my weekends often involve food.  Which is why the low points of my weekdays often involve working out.

I topped off this Weekend of Deliciousness (CBA, Greek food, and a slice of pizza and Dunkin’ Donuts breakfast sandwich somewhere in between) with a good ol’ fashioned Chicago hot dog.

YUM. Couldn’t be better if it was real meat!

And speaking of dogs…

Someone was experiencing a little food envy. But can you blame him??
