February Photo a Day: Something new

My new Hunter boots!

This is what they look like while waiting for the bus in the morning. Fabulous.

If you’re wondering why there was no photo yesterday, it’s because the challenge was “phone.” I take all my photos with my phone, so that in itself presented a problem. And I’m pretty sure you don’t care to see a picture of my work phone. So I skipped it.

Photo shoot

I’ll tell you the same thing I tell everyone else who asks: No, I am not a model.

Just kidding. No one ever asks me that. And now you can see why.

But Will’s mom was nice enough to buy us a professional photo shoot in St. Louis, so we decided to take advantage of it in Forest Park on one of the most beautiful fall days ever.

And yes, I know only weird people have professional photos taken with their pets. Awkward Family Pet Photos, anyone? We are officially those people.

P.S. I miss fall.

February Photo a Day: Heart

Today’s photo challenge is quite appropriate since it is, in fact, Valentine’s Day. Or as Will likes to call it, Tuesday.

But just because my husband hates all days of the year in which he is expected to put forth any extra degree of thoughtfulness and effort (don’t worry, he has many other redeeming qualities – THANK GOD), that doesn’t mean that I have to completely ignore the holiday.

So in honor of VD (Valentine’s Day, that is), I surprised Will with heart-shaped Dunkin’ Donuts and coffee this morning. And I’m wearing my red jeans. Because if you happen to be the owner of bright red pants, how can you not wear them on Valentine’s Day?

Matisyahu

Matisyahu stopped by the office today to play a few tunes. And holy crap! Mind. Blown.

I had heard of him before, but wasn’t very familiar with any of his songs. So when he started beatboxing, I assumed that he was being accompanied by an electronic background beat.

But no. Matisyahu can make the sounds of every percussion instrument known to man. Simultaneously. With his mouth. It’s crazy.

And I like his music a lot – the songs he played for us were from his new album dropping in June, and they were fun with an upbeat, happy reggae vibe.

Like this:

Nice, huh? A little Matisyahu for your Monday.

I forgot to bring my phone with me to the performance. The above photos were posted on Facebook by some of my co-workers.

February Photo a Day: Catching up

Since I forgot to post yesterday, you get two photos today!

Yesterday’s photo: Makes me happy

I finally have the third Hunger Games book in my possession! (Thanks to my sister who lent it to me.) I read the first book over the summer, so it’s about time I find out how this whole thing ends.

Today’s photo: Inside my closet

Uggh. My closet is actually bigger than it looks here, but my clothes are still crammed in there pretty good. The idea of a walk-in closet is almost tempting enough to consider a move to the suburbs. Almost…

Prodigy

If you’re big into blogging or fashion, you’ve probably heard of Tavi Gevinson.

This girl’s style, blog and new online magazine are revered throughout the fashion world. She gets personal invites to New York Fashion Week. Her originality and creativity are pretty much mind-blowing. She’s the definition of cool.

But there are two especially crazy/interesting things about her:

1. She lives in Oak Park, IL (where I was an infant resident for the first 8 months of my life).

2. She’s 15 years old. FIFTEEN! And girlfriend already has her own Wikipedia page.

To put it in perspective, when I was 15, my life pretty much consisted of watching Dawson’s Creek and scraping gum off my retainer. Often simultaneously. (I’ve always been good at multi-tasking!)

So Miss Gevinson, you have my complete respect. As well as sincere jealously because I seriously want your life.

P.S. All the cool kids are from Oak Park. (Um hello – Frank Lloyd Wright, Ernest Hemingway, Kathy Griffin, Bob Newhart, Ludacris, Betty White?! Need I say more?)

February Photo a Day: Front door

Obviously I’m bending the rules a little here – this is not a photo.

But it is our front door.

I happened to stumble upon this painting by Josh Moulton one day last year as I was casually surfing the internet. I have to tell you, it’s kind of weird to be mindlessly gazing at artwork online and then – wait a minute! That’s MY house!

So of course I purchased a print. And if you’d also like a print or a painting of my house (or other cool scenes in Chicago and elsewhere), head over to Josh Moulton’s website. The guy’s got talent!
